My research focuses on the European integration process and the policies and policymaking of the European Union. Three main areas of focus can be identified: (1) The EU’s external relations, including enlargement policy, climate change, trade, security, and in particular the EU’s role as a mediator. (2) Theoretical considerations of European politics and policymaking, especially with regard to supranational/neofunctionalist approaches. (3) Football and politics – with a particular focus on being a fan in various social/political contexts, such as attitudes towards Europe/the EU, migration, and democracy.
